Recap

It was a 5-1 victory for the Bolts over the Wolves in the second game of head-to-head matchups. The Bolts’ strong play execution, team passing game and quick transitions were the key to the team’s success.

Turning Point

The Bolts controlled the puck from the very start of the game and continued through both periods. The team’s speed and team play created a strong offensive push, testing the Wolves goalie early and often. The team’s strong defensive play kept Whitby’s opportunities to a minimum. The Bolt’s defensive efforts were effective by keeping their opposition outside on any offensive chances the Wolves had.

Play Summary

The team’s quick, aggressive start created the game’s first goal within the game’s first few minutes. It was scored by Izzy Wunder #9 on a set up by Tory Mariano #4. Bolt’s goalie Hannah Murphy #83 stopped two breakaways a few minutes apart midway of the first period, further hampering Whitby’s drives.

The Bolt’s second goal, also scored by Issy Wunder #9, came at the 10-minute mark of the first period. Wunder #9 received a stretch pass from Georgia Sambrano #88, deep in the Bolt’s zone. Wunder stepped around the Whitby defender and shot the puck 5-hole to put the Bolts ahead 2-0. The Junior Lightning scored two more goals before the end of the period. One from Nicole Hunter #44 buried a shot of a heads-up pass from Alyson Hush #67. A few minutes later, the Bolt’s scored again with a deflection by Lauren Kader #11 off a shot by Georgia Sambrano #88. Whitby would score before the end of the period, but the period ended period 4-1, favouring The Junior Lightning.

The second period opened for the Bolt’s with a penalty shot by Izzy Wunder #9. Wunder was stopped glove side of the Whitby net-minder. The Bolts continued their strong team play and control of the game throughout the second period. This led to the Bolts’ final goal of the game when Teghan MacRae #5 pushed the puck past the Whitby defence at the blue line, snapping a shot high glove side and into the net. The 5-1 victory was a convincing and strong win for the Junior Lightning.
