It was a 4-1 victory for the Junior Lightning over the Junior Wolves in the first game of head-to-head matchups between these teams. The Bolts’ numerous scoring opportunities came from Durham’s aggressive and fast game.
Turning Point
The Bolts were strong on the puck throughout the game. They were very successful in forcing the play in the neutral zone, breaking up Whitby’s offensive opportunities and creating turnovers. The defence was very active in the Lightning’s offensive attack, adding to the Bolts numerous scoring opportunities and control of the play.
Play Summary
The game started with a quick pace, with the Bolts having the majority of the scoring opportunities. At the ten-minute mark of the first period, Whitby was awarded a penalty shot. Goalie Brooklyn Oakes #37 successfully stopped the Whitby shooter and went on to stop a total of three of four penalty shots taken by Whitby during the game.
The Bolts opened the scoring at 11:38 of the first period with a hard shot by Baily Oakes #77 off a pass from Nicole Hunter #44. The score would remain 1-0 for the Bolts through to the end of the first period, even after Whitby’s second penalty shot of the period.
The Bolts’ persistent offensive paid off in the third period with a goal from Izzy Wunder #9 off a breakout pass from Bailey Oakes #77. Although Whitby scored for the Junior wolves on a penalty shot, the Junior Lightning would score twice late in the third
